In this role, you will work to identify and present potential opportunities for the commercial side of the business. Valvoline Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. This position will proactively collaborate across the organization to provide guidance on the tax implications of business decisions and transactions, collaborate across internal and external teams, and remain current on tax laws and regulations to optimize the organization’s tax profile.   How You'll Make a Difference - Tax Organization Oversight: Strategic Support - Set vision and tone for the tax organization. - Collaborate with key leadership on strategies to optimize for an efficient tax structure. - Communicate effectively with senior management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors on tax matters, risks, and opportunities. - Manage a team of internal professionals and outside advisors to ensure an adequate complement of expertise and resources supporting the organization’s tax needs. - Oversee continuous improvement to leverage technology and streamline processes for improved efficiency and effectiveness. - Oversee and manage department budget and expenditures. - Tax Organization Oversight: Day-to-Day Support - Serve as a subject matter expert across the organization and collaborate with key stakeholders to share timely perspectives on tax matters. - Serve as an escalation point for decision-making on complex and judgmental tax matters. - Remain current on key developments in tax and proactively update leadership on key emerging topics and issues, including implications of significant regulatory changes, transactions, and other matters with meaningful tax effects. - Provide mentorship and guidance to the tax team to support growth and professional development. - Provide consistency and oversight across all areas of tax organization to ensure key assumptions and judgments are consistently and timely applied (e.g., compliance and accounting implications and judgments). - Tax Accounting and Reporting - Provide leadership and oversight for all tax accounting and reporting matters, including the interim and annual income tax provision processes, tax indemnification matters between predecessor and legacy organizations, review and oversight of financial disclosures, and the execution of key controls over financial reporting to produce timely financial statements with accurate tax balances, activity, and disclosures in accordance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. - Establish, communicate, and maintain policies to drive compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, including ensuring changes are monitored, evaluated, communicated, and adopted in a timely manner. - Oversee effectiveness of internal controls of end-to-end financial processes and reporting to ensure compliance with US GAAP, notably ASC 740. - Provide guidance and oversee the completion of research to develop and document positions to ensure significant, complex business transactions and accounting judgments are appropriate, well supported, and in accordance with US GAAP and SEC accounting and disclosure requirements. - Proactively coordinate with management and external auditors to support the completion of annual financial statement audits and assess control effectiveness. - Communicate with clarity regarding significant tax accounting and reporting matters with executive management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. - Provide guidance on the tax accounting and cash tax implications of business decisions and transactions. - Retain and consult with tax advisors, as needed, to support the organization’s tax accounting and effective internal controls, including for complex transactions and judgments where subject matter expertise is required. - Tax Compliance - Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of income and transaction tax compliance with regulations for ongoing business within the US and Canada and related jurisdictions (federal, state, and local income tax; sales and use tax; excise tax; real and personal property tax, etc.). - Manage third parties and internal teams that support compliance processes through active review, feedback, and coaching. - Manage tax audits, reviews, and examinations conducted by the requisite authorities, overseeing the process through exams, protests/appeals, and/or litigation, as necessary, to obtain resolution and the most advantageous outcome for the organization. - Support global tax compliance and audits for periods in which Valvoline was affiliated with predecessor and legacy organizations through strong coordination and collaboration, in addition to managing related indemnities. - Provide guidance on tax law changes and related implications to the organization and its processes. - Strategic Planning and Forecasting - Develop, implement, and manage the organization’s tax strategy and policies in accordance with regulatory requirements. - Provide transaction support for acquisitions and divestitures, including structuring recommendations and evaluating and communicating tax implications. - Partner with accounting, finance, third-party advisors, and others in the organization to identify, evaluate, and implement tax planning opportunities. - Analyze and interpret tax laws and regulations to maintain compliance and optimize the organization’s tax profile. - Communicate effectively with senior management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors on the risks, opportunities, and impacts of tax planning strategies. - Collaborate with Financial Planning and Analysis to establish and monitor annual and long-range budgets and periodic forecasts of tax-related financial statement implications, including the income tax provision and cash taxes, in addition to the effects of significant transactions and changing tax laws and regulations. - Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion. In this role, you will be responsible for driving unaided awareness, purchase intent, consideration, and perception lift to grow the Valvoline Instant Oil Change customer base.  In collaboration with the media agency of record, you will develop media strategies to meet business goals, be responsible for optimizing channel mix, and own media results across the top of the funnel.   Valvoline Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. We are open to remote candidates who can travel to HQ as needed.     How You'll Make a Difference - Translating business objectives, goals, and strategies into practical tactics across multiple channels. These tactics aim to effectively generate sales and achieve or surpass key performance indicator (KPI) targets, with a specific emphasis on acquiring new customers. - Working in concert with media planning agency to develop national, regional, and local media plans across multiple channels, including, but not necessarily limited to CTC/OTV, Social, Display, TV, Digital Audio, Podcast, Influencer, Radio, TV and OOH. - Working with Valvoline Franchise Marketing to develop and roll out media programs for franchisees that leverage the corporate media strategy. - Working with creative agency and media planning agency to map the appropriate messages to the appropriate creative vehicles, placements, and sequencing. - Providing thought leadership on current trends and innovations in media and assessing their potential applicability to Valvoline media plans. - Consulting on creative execution. - Actively monitoring media KPIs and reporting on performance to inform optimization of traditional and digital channels. - Ensuring on-time, on-target delivery of all media with appropriate tagging. - Providing appropriate oversight of media agencies using media tools to monitor delivery and spending. - Managing advertising spend; recording, reporting, and processing all budget items. - Leading media insights work inclusive of media mix modeling, multi-touch attribution, and closed-loop reporting. - Working across the organization to develop frameworks for better measuring and understanding media effectiveness. - Working with media agency and brand communications team to optimize ongoing campaigns based on performance, shifts in strategy or changes in the market landscape. - Monitoring and reporting out on tracking of total working and non-working budget. - Authoring media briefs. In the role, you would be responsible for: - Investigations - Responsible for leading investigations on complex and high-risk matters, including charges of sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage/hour, leadership behavior, and workplace disputes with minimal supervision. - Must define, strategize, and plan the scope of the investigation and determine the investigation plan, including interviews of witnesses, affected parties, reporting parties, and subject(s). Prior to each investigation, the Employee Relations Specialist determines all applicable parties to notify and involve, including all levels of leadership up to and including executives. - Listens, identifies, and distills essential information needed to assess and resolve problems. - Conducts ER risk assessments and provides advice and actionable feedback to all levels of leadership regarding remedial corrective actions resulting from investigations conducted. - Partners with HR Business Partners (HRBP), legal, and field regional Managers/Directors to provide timely briefings regarding various investigation results and proposed ER recommendations; partners with the HRBPs during management briefings as appropriate. - Composes comprehensive, well-written Reports of Investigation that contain factual, fair, and objective support for any conclusions and recommended corrective actions reached in the investigation. - Coaching/Consultation Management - - Provide consultation and coaching to Area Managers, Market Managers, and HR Business Partners as needed to take action on employee relations matters. - Analyze casework trends to produce strategic, proactive recommendations to HR and the business to address and mitigate systemic issues proactively. - Provide guidance and interpretations of HR policies and procedures (US & Canada). - Provide recommendations on corrective actions and develop talking points for use by managers. - Regulatory Compliance - Supports ensuring regulatory compliance by monitoring regulatory changes; conducting analysis on regulatory impacts; reporting and escalating non-compliance as appropriate; raising issues and concerns; acting on regulatory updates; and supporting the implementation of designated changes. - Provides consultation to legal and the training team in the development of training programs for human resources and legal compliance, as well as conducting training on employee relations issues. - Facilitates training and coaching of managers on employee relations and federal regulation issues. - Mitigates risk to avoid and/or reduce the Company’s potential legal liabilities. - Reviews background check screenings of certain criminal convictions in conjunction with EEOC guidelines - Trend Analysis - Takes a proactive, strategic approach to employee relations by identifying higher-level employee relations trends, and recommending solutions to HRBPs that address root causes of issues. - Project Management/Consultation - Partners in the analysis and revision of people programs, policies, and practices to sustain a productive work environment. - Provides support for DEI Initiatives. - Advocates for a healthy workplace culture. - Evaluates Religious Accommodation requests.
