The Opportunity

Valvoline has a rewarding opportunity as a Sr. Benefits Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration and communication of US and Canadian H&W and retirement benefit plans, including 401(k), medical, dental, vision, wellbeing, and other voluntary programs. You will serve as a principal source of information for employees describing benefit programs and explaining options and alternatives. Researches, responds to, and resolves complex benefits inquiries; elevates unusual or complicated cases; provides policy interpretation and guidance on operating procedures and regulations. Works directly with consultants, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators as needed to support benefits delivery and expense management.

 

How You'll Make a Difference

  • Assist with the development and communication of all employee benefit programs with the goals of reinforcing benefits purpose and the employee value proposition, internally and externally, to potential applicants. Revise communication materials on benefits as needed (e.g., hourly store and salaried exempt employees), improving access to benefits information and targeting messages to various segments of our workforce for a better understanding of how our plans impact them. Lead and implement initiatives for health and wellbeing programs.
  • Analyze cost, budget trends, and statistical reports to identify utilization, areas for improvement, and ways to stay competitive. Stay current with best practices, particularly within the retail industry. Prepare data by plan for reporting. May evaluate claims reports.
  • Research, respond to, and resolve complex benefits inquiries; elevate unusual or complicated cases; provide policy interpretation and guidance on operating procedures and regulations.
  • Provide oversight on benefit plan governance, reporting, and compliance with federal and state laws within benefits (ERISA, DOL, COBRA, IRS). Ensure applicable regulatory requirements are adhered to on an ongoing basis. Assist with internal/external audit requirements and required compliance reporting (e.g., Form 5500s).
  • Work with employees and family members on the appropriate use of benefit plans. Respond to benefit plan inquiries from managers and employees regarding enrollments, plan changes, and contribution amounts.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in HR, Finance, Business, or related field, but considerable experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
  • Minimum of four years of exempt-level experience in benefits administration within a complex large, multi-state employer (1,000+ employees) environment
  • CEBS and HIPAA certification or training preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefit plans; medical, dental, retirement, life, disability, EAPs/wellbeing
  • Knowledge of state, local, and federal leave laws and disability programs, such as ADA and FMLA
  • Project management
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, manage multiple projects, and lead with professionalism.
  • Ability to draft various communications drawing information from plan documents, contracts, etc. Ability to draft new policies and procedures and/or the ability to modify existing policies and procedures
  • Ability to develop relationships, collaborate, and influence others to work effectively with various employees.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and define and solve problems
  • Experience monitoring budgets preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, HRIS, and payroll systems; Workday is a plus
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
